The Green unit’s scientific project

Last update: 19 April 2016

Our interdisciplinary project is designed to explore the different dynamics of change affecting SES

We consider the diversity of the view points of the actors (academic and non-academic) on these dynamics of change as a prerequisite for collective action and as a subject for analysis. The implementation of our project thus mobilizes skills in several disciplinary domains (Science and Technology, Life and Environment Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences), in particular through specific tools (modelling platforms, participatory approaches).

The questions that form the core of our project are:

  • Which conditions of application of the different transdisciplinary theoretical frameworks of the change of the SES allow the elucidation, the sharing and the co-construction of knowledge?
  • How does the articulation between public policy instruments and methods of managing natural resource make it possible to understand the processes of design of governance mechanisms, the emergence of new instruments and their effects on the evolution of SES?
  • How to characterize the effects of the co-construction of knowledge on the perceptions and practices of SES actors, as well as on the evolution of SES that may potentially result?

Established in Montpellier, France, and in association with many scientific communities in the Global North and the Global South, the Green research unit is especially invested in West Africa, the Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia, Brazil and in Central America.
